"The Spirit of Japan"

Inspired by the variety of colour and nature on Mount Fuji, often referred to as the "Soul of Japan", this remarkable Limited Edition product from Sailor depicts the combination of seasonal colour, nature and dramatic landscape of this majestic Japanese mountain setting. The four special designs representing the changing seasonal images are hand decorated in the traditional MAKI-E techniques by master craftsman - Isshu Tamura. The smooth unbroken lines of this new ebonite pen allow full appreciation of the artist’s designs.
The nib section for this product is specially made by Nobuyoshi Nagahara. It is called the Cross Point nib and is crafted from two nibs together and then specially ‘slit’ to form the Cross Point. The nib is finally finished by very high polishing to provide the "the very best of writing of smoothness and perfection" as expected of a Sailor Pen.

Kaga Taka MAKI-E Artist
Tamura Isshu

Mr.Isshu Tamura has mastered the Japanese traditional Kaga MAKI-E art form style from the famous master MAKI-E artist Seria Ikkou. Mr. Tamura has also specialized in the specialist technique of Yamanaka MAKI-E Lacquer ware.
This style of MAKI-E has been used extensively for thousands of years in Kanazawa region of, Japan. He started collaboration with Sailor for MAKI-E design on their Fountain pens in 1992. He is a true craftsman maintaining traditional techniques and yet does not hesitate to bring new ideas into the art of MAKI-E.
He is certified as a Traditional Craft Artist by the Minister of International Trade and Industry.
He is a Member of the Kanazawa Lacquer Art Association
